Hey bloggers,
for inquiry, we have a few tasks to choose from and I choose to make a superhero. I had to make an origin story, what their superpowers were, and what they protect the world from. I also had to draw my awesome superhero, he is called Hurricane Man. Here is my work that I work very hard on.
Kia ora, I am a student at Marshland School, Welcome - Haere Mai. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note my work may include spelling or other errors because some of it will be my first drafts. I would like to get your feedback - comments, thoughts, questions and ideas to help me Learn Create Share.

2020 The Year That Was!
Hey bloggers,
for literacy we made a poem, this poem had to include 13 things we did this year. This could include Covid 19, sports events, or even camp. We drafted it on google docs, we had to rhyme the last word with the other last word in the couplet. Then after we finished we put it on book creator. Here it is.

The Big Bad Wolf?
My Ice Experiment!
over this term we have been doing science experiments, so we can practice scientific reports. This week's experiment was what substance the salt will melt the ice fastest. I thought that the salt would melt the ice fastest because I had some prior knowledge that salt eats away at the ice. After we had written the scientific report, I got asked to make it look good. Here is my final product, Hope You Enjoy.
Have you done any scientific report before?

Yellow stone park!
for the past week, we have been learning about the yellow stone park. Did you know when they brought back the wolves in 1995 the park got turned around? The scenery was greener there were more animals in the area. But what surprised most of all was the wolves stabled the banks, the wolves stopped the herbivores eating away at the trees and stuff, so the trees stabled the rivers with there roots.
I made a screencastify here it is.

Save the ocean!
today we are doing python coding we had to code a global issue, I made an animation about pollution in the ocean. How I did was a bit complicated but it was basically writing in code. Here is a picture of my code.
The message behind my animation is we have to save the ocean from pollution. The solution to pollution is hard work.
Have you coded before?

Observing oil spills!
oil is in and around our world, even in places you wouldn’t imagine. We use oil for cooking but we also use crude oil. The pumping and transporting of crude oil around the globe often have environmental effects. We have looked at various texts and videos to learn about some of these effects, and it ‘good’ timing as there was a recent oil spill (24 July 2020) in Mauritius that we could investigate.
Check out my video to learn more about oil, and see the simulation we did in class about cleaning oil from water.
Have you done any experiments before?

ASCII
For my technology task, I hade to work out my name and Initials in ASCII. ASCII is a type of language that computers use to translate code into English. quiet like what I am doing right now. How I worked this out was, I worked out my name in binary then added 1 to the back of it and then if needed to add 0 to make 7. ASCII has to be worked out in 7. Then I choose different colors to suit 1 and 0. Here is my DLO.
Do you know how to work out Binary?
THE AWESOME BOOK COVER!
for literacy, we are learning about fractured fairy tales. For my activity, I had to make a fractured fairy tale. So I choose the fairy tale the three little pigs, and I fractured it by changing the pigs to kiwis and the wolf to a wallaby. Here is the sequence the story goes in.
Here is the book cover for the three little kiwis and the big bad wallaby.

Awesome Algebra
For this week's maths, I am doing Algebra. For my activity, I had to come up with an expression and an answer to these questions. An expression is a sentence with a minimum of two numbers and at least one math operation. This math operation can be addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and others.
Next, I had to come up with my own question and then I had to find an expression and answers for it.answer to my question
We Can't Feed The Poor But We Can Fund A War!
For inquiry, I am learning about global issues. For this task, the teachers laid out different pieces of art that represent different global issues. Then my class got told to write what each image represents. After we wrote what each image represents we had to single out one image that they thought had the most impact and write about it. We had to write about what it meant and we had to write at least one paragraph. Here is mine.
Do you agree?

Cool Comic Strips
for inquiry, we are learning about irony and global issues. We had to make a comic strip with some sort of irony. Irony can come in many different forms, Verbal, Situational, and Dramatic. The irony is something that happens, but you expect the exact opposite. For example, rugby players playing a game of rugby with a hockey puck. Here is a comic strip of situational irony. I made this on Google draw.
Have you made a comic strip before?

Super Siapo
For my classes technology time, we have been creating a Siapo. A siapo is one of the oldest and most important traditions of Samoa is the Siapo or Tapa. It is a type of cloth made from the bark of the mulberry tree. It is very time-consuming, because the bark must be harvested, stripped, separated, scraped, and beaten before it can be used. It is then laid out in the sun to dry.
The artist uses natural dyes, created from items such as berries, bark, and nuts to make patterns on the cloth.
There are 13 traditional patterns used on siapo that represent things common to Samoan culture such as nets, coconut leaves, shells, and flowers.
Of course, we did not use the bark or the natural dyes because it would be too time-consuming, so instead, we used Paper, pastels, and Brown dye. Here is the final product.

Rig the game!
for my maths this week we were laying a game, this game was called take three. How you play take three, is you start off with 21. Now P1 can take the numbers 1, 2, and 3 from 21. Say P1 takes 3 then there would be 18 left, now P2 can take away any numbers between 1 and 3 etcetera, etcetera. How you win is you have to get the last number or token.
For my task today we had to rig this game so it is impossible for your opponent to win. How I worked this out was making a table and playing a few games and seeing if there are any patterns. The pattern I found was the people who are on 8 and 4 always in the game. so I found out that they were both multiples of 4. In conclusion, you have to be on a multiple of four to win the game.
Have you played this game before? Will you play it now?
The Bone art
for inquiry, my class is making something called a Maori bone necklace, but instead of bone, we used air-dried clay. A Maori bone necklace is a necklace made of bone and has some sort of Maori design on it. They are also known as Manaia, Manaia was made of moa bones, but now they are made of cattle, oxen, deer, goats, and camels. Of course, because moas are extinct.
The first step was to research and sketch a few designs of something that can represent something about you. The second step was making it in play-doh so you now it is possible to make with air-dried clay. The third step was to sketch your final design and write about what is important in it.
The last step is by far the most fun bit was to make it with air dry clay.
He is an abode spark with the final design and some interesting facts.
Have you made a bone necklace before?

Cool castle work
For my literacy work today my teachers read the class a book called the three little pigs. If you are not familiar with this story please press on this link. For my task, I had to write something called a story mountain. A story mountain is a metaphoric term for a narrative story, which means that there is a setting, rising action, Climate, falling action, and the resolution. Here is a diagram
My task today was to create a castle on google draw and then pinpoint all the story mountain of the three little pigs.

Cool Covid - 19 poster.
For Inquiry, my class all made a COVID 19 poster, the best poster will be put up around our school. The poster had to include a title, body text, and small text. To make it better I spread out the writing and made sure I did not overcrowd my poster. I put the yellow lines to catch the eye of the reader and made it so it pushed your eyes towards the texts.

The twits Chapter one Hairy Faces Inference!
This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.
An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference. For example, when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair nets and this is required in all food factories.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.
I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.
See you next time!

Last week ( week 5 )
Things have been good because new Zealand getting out of lockdown on Monday. This means back to school and no more online learning. Although it has been kinder fun it will be good to be back at school. Today I am going to show you literacy, numeracy, and a Friday task.
literacy
for my favorite literacy task, I had to make a timeline about Roald dahl. This timeline had to include place and time of birth, schools, work, and death. I had to show this in a creative way so I choose a website called render forest. Here it is.
Math
For math this week I was learning how to add and subtract fractions. I also learned how to multiply and divided fractions. To go with this we also had to do an escape room which was really fun. Here is the escape room I had to do.
For my Friday task, I had to go onto Google Maps and choose a country (not NZ), zoom in and have a look around the different city names and regions. Once I had chosen my country, I start doing some research about the cuisine in that country. What do they eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? What are some popular snacks? I write these down in a list, then compare them to what you to what I eat. Are there any differences?

Online Learning week 3! Wacky half week!
Welcome back to another week, this week I am going to choose my favorite literacy task, numeracy task, technology, and Friday task. From now on I will be doing only one blog post a week and it will feature the activities I have just mentioned.
Literacy
For my favorite literacy task, I had to do an information report about giraffes. They had to include six things, an Introduction, a Giraffe description, habitat, diet, something interesting, and fun facts. An information report is something you do when someone wants information on an animal or subject.
Numeracy
My favorite numeracy task, I had to work on my coordinates work and learn what a cartesian plane is. A Cartesian plane is basically the thing you use to work on your coordinates, it is a plane that has many squares on it and has 2 rows of numbers in the middle. These numbers are on both sides of 0. I also had to play a few games and get used to working on a cartesian plane. I took screenshots of all the endings of the games that I had played.
Technology
For my technology task, I made a pizza and made a pizza box for my pizza. Then I had to get some taste feedback and see if I can improve my recipe.
What have you been doing during the lockdown?

Online learning day 8
For my work today, it was a bit more crafty. Today I made a giant poppy out of a long stick and a red shopping bag. How I did it was, I cut a big hole in one side of the shopping bag and then I cut a little hole on the other. Then I got a black plastic table cloth and cut a small hole in it. Then I got the two red bits and put the little red circle in the middle and then I folded it in half and then folded it into a quarter and I pinched the bottom corner. Pinching the bottom corner start to undo it a little, then twist. Now put a nail through the middle onto a long stick. This is the final product for me.
Have you made a poppy? Did it turn out good?
I also had to do a different task, for this task I had to put emojis in order to make a saying. For example ⛰😒🧱
This would be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Do you know all of them?

Online learning day 7
For literacy today, my activity was to write a diary entry from the ANZAC soldier's point of view. I wrote mine about when the ANZAC soldiers first landed at Gallipoli. I had to write this from a 1 person view.
The noise all around me is constantly ear piercing, the shouting, the guns, and the cries for help. The gun fires are as loud as a heavy hail banging on a tin roof, Rattata Rattata. Now I just wish I never joined the army.
Do you know anything about the Gallipoli war?

Online Learning day 6
Unfortunately, the lockdown has been extended so I will be doing this for at least 1 more week.
For literacy, my task was to watch some videos about the landing at the ANZAC war. Then see if I can write down similes our describing words for each sense.
For math today, I picked a and mark, then I got he dimension for that landmark in my case I choose MT Fuji. So I found the dimension for MT fuji, this is because I am going to apply a scaling factor to the dimensions so I can put it on a Tinkercad.
Do you know anything about ANZAC?

online learning day 4
For literacy, we did a piece of descriptive writing about, The Man Who Walked Between The Two Towers. Most of us had no I dear who this was, but we could all kind of guess where it was. Where do you think it was? Well, it was the twin towers in New York. Here is a link to the story. We did four or five quality sentences, in a first-person view and of our character choice. Here is mine.
I only see the string thin tight rope and the miraculous sunrise across New york. The unfinished north tower was about a football field away. I was not nervous. I had to be calm, open and close I thought. I put my first foot onto the rope that felt like air, I've dreamed of this for many years.
For math today I made a house design, with all the measurements. My guidelines were there are two adults and 2 children in the house. So there had to be at least two bedrooms 1 bathroom one living room and one kitchen. I made this on Tinkercad.
Have you made a Tinkercad before? Had you heard of The Man Who Walked Between The Two Towers?

Online Learning Day 3
Its day 3 of online learning and here's what I had to do.
For numeracy, I had to pick out an object in my house and see if it could fit in your bubble which has a two-meter radius. Here's how I did it.
For literacy, I had to make a photo album of things I have been doing in my bubble. This can include watching TV, skipping, running anything really. What I did is on this slide show presentation.
Have you done a photo album before? What did you do it on? Have you done work on the two-meter bubble yet?
