Super Superhero

 Hey bloggers,
for inquiry, we have a few tasks to choose from and I choose to make a superhero. I had to make an origin story, what their superpowers were, and what they protect the world from. I also had to draw my awesome superhero, he is called Hurricane Man. Here is my work that I work very hard on.

Can you make a superhero?

2020 The Year That Was!

 Hey bloggers,
for literacy we made a poem, this poem had to include 13 things we did this year. This could include Covid 19, sports events, or even camp. We drafted it on google docs, we had to rhyme the last word with the other last word in the couplet. Then after we finished we put it on book creator. Here it is.

The Big Bad Wolf?

In Yellowstone wolves were the savior of the park, they helped other animals population. They Started a Trophic cascade. The trees started to grow three and four times bigger.

However, in France, the wolves population grew and grew so they had to start feasting on the farmer's livestock. This put the farmers into debt.

In my opinion, I think wolves are great. They are fast, strong, and extremely smart. If you look past the big teeth and claws they are pretty cool.

What side are you on? Please be the side that I am on!

My Ice Experiment!

G'day bloggers,
over this term we have been doing science experiments, so we can practice scientific reports. This week's experiment was what substance the salt will melt the ice fastest. I thought that the salt would melt the ice fastest because I had some prior knowledge that salt eats away at the ice. After we had written the scientific report, I got asked to make it look good. Here is my final product, Hope You Enjoy.

Ice Melting Experiment. Have you done any scientific report before?

Yellow stone park!

Hey bloggers,
for the past week, we have been learning about the yellow stone park. Did you know when they brought back the wolves in 1995 the park got turned around? The scenery was greener there were more animals in the area. But what surprised most of all was the wolves stabled the banks, the wolves stopped the herbivores eating away at the trees and stuff, so the trees stabled the rivers with there roots.
I made a screencastify here it is.
Do you know anything about the yellow stone park?

Save the ocean!

Gday bloggers,
today we are doing python coding we had to code a global issue, I made an animation about pollution in the ocean. How I did was a bit complicated but it was basically writing in code. Here is a picture of my code.
Here are some screenshots o my animation.

The message behind my animation is we have to save the ocean from pollution. The solution to pollution is hard work.
Have you coded before?

Carbonated Drinks vs Mentos Experiment

G'day bloggers,
for literacy we did an experiment and wrote a scientific report, the experiment was. Do all carbonated drinks (Fizzy drinks) react to mentos. First, we did an experiment to see if all carbonated drinks react to mentos and find out which ones go the highest. The supermarket budget lemonade went the highest, this took me by surprise. Next, I wrote a scientific report the included my hypothesis and a conclusion.

Have you done the coke and mentos experiment before? How high did it go? How many coke bottles?

Observing oil spills!

Gday bloggers,
oil is in and around our world, even in places you wouldn’t imagine. We use oil for cooking but we also use crude oil. The pumping and transporting of crude oil around the globe often have environmental effects. We have looked at various texts and videos to learn about some of these effects, and it ‘good’ timing as there was a recent oil spill (24 July 2020) in Mauritius that we could investigate.
Check out my video to learn more about oil, and see the simulation we did in class about cleaning oil from water.

Have you done any experiments before?

What liquid makes ice melt quickest?

G'day bloggers,
this term we have been looking at scientific writing. today we did an experiment it was what liquid makes Ice Melt quickest in? To make this a fair excrement we had to drop the ice in at the same time and many more things.
Have you done an experiment before?

Fizzy Rocket

G'day bloggers,
for literacy, we are writing scientific reports, scientific reports have to include a hypothesis, Materials, method/procedure, and conclusion of what happened. The experiment I was doing was fizzy rockets, what it is you get 2 cups of water and put on whole aspirin in and the then a crushed up one in. Here is my experiment.
What experiments have you done?

In His Blood

G'day bloggers, When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better?  We have been learning about how important this is this week in Literacy. When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’.  I made sure they were open-ended questions that would help me understand the book more.  An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adult's intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs to coil up so that it fits in the body. Next, we got to chose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3 advanced questions about it.  Ours create task this week was to share these in a creative way.  I chose to do it with Renderforest and it was about a book called ‘In the blood’

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realise how important it is to do this when reading
to understand the text better.

Do you ever do further research when you are reading a book to deepen your understanding?

ASCII

Gday bloggers,

For my technology task, I hade to work out my name and Initials in ASCII. ASCII is a type of language that computers use to translate code into English. quiet like what I am doing right now. How I worked this out was, I worked out my name in binary then added 1 to the back of it and then if needed to add 0 to make 7. ASCII has to be worked out in 7. Then I choose different colors to suit 1 and 0. Here is my DLO.

Do you know how to work out Binary?

THE AWESOME BOOK COVER!

Hey bloggers,
for literacy, we are learning about fractured fairy tales. For my activity, I had to make a fractured fairy tale. So I choose the fairy tale the three little pigs, and I fractured it by changing the pigs to kiwis and the wolf to a wallaby. Here is the sequence the story goes in.

Here is the book cover for the three little kiwis and the big bad wallaby.
Have you done fractured fairy tales before?

Awesome Algebra

Hey bloggers,
For this week's maths, I am doing Algebra. For my activity, I had to come up with an expression and an answer to these questions. An expression is a sentence with a minimum of two numbers and at least one math operation. This math operation can be addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and others.

Next, I had to come up with my own question and then I had to find an expression and answers for it.answer to my question

We Can't Feed The Poor But We Can Fund A War!

Hey bloggers,
For inquiry, I am learning about global issues. For this task, the teachers laid out different pieces of art that represent different global issues. Then my class got told to write what each image represents. After we wrote what each image represents we had to single out one image that they thought had the most impact and write about it. We had to write about what it meant and we had to write at least one paragraph. Here is mine.

Do you agree?

Cool Comic Strips

Hey bloggers,
for inquiry, we are learning about irony and global issues. We had to make a comic strip with some sort of irony. Irony can come in many different forms, Verbal, Situational, and Dramatic. The irony is something that happens, but you expect the exact opposite. For example, rugby players playing a game of rugby with a hockey puck. Here is a comic strip of situational irony. I made this on Google draw.
Have you made a comic strip before?

Super Siapo

Hey Bloggers,
For my classes technology time, we have been creating a Siapo. A siapo is one of the oldest and most important traditions of Samoa is the Siapo or Tapa.  It is a type of cloth made from the bark of the mulberry tree.  It is very time-consuming, because the bark must be harvested, stripped, separated, scraped, and beaten before it can be used.  It is then laid out in the sun to dry.

The artist uses natural dyes, created from items such as berries, bark, and nuts to make patterns on the cloth.

There are 13 traditional patterns used on siapo that represent things common to Samoan culture such as nets, coconut leaves, shells, and flowers.

Of course, we did not use the bark or the natural dyes because it would be too time-consuming, so instead, we used Paper, pastels, and Brown dye. Here is the final product.

Have you made a Siapo before? Did it turn out good?

Rig the game!

Hey bloggers,
for my maths this week we were laying a game, this game was called take three. How you play take three, is you start off with 21. Now P1 can take the numbers 1, 2, and 3 from 21. Say P1 takes 3 then there would be 18 left, now P2 can take away any numbers between 1 and 3 etcetera, etcetera.  How you win is you have to get the last number or token.

For my task today we had to rig this game so it is impossible for your opponent to win. How I worked this out was making a table and playing a few games and seeing if there are any patterns. The pattern I found was the people who are on 8 and 4 always in the game. so I found out that they were both multiples of 4. In conclusion, you have to be on a multiple of four to win the game.
Have you played this game before? Will you play it now?

The Bone art

Hey Bloggers,
for inquiry, my class is making something called a Maori bone necklace, but instead of bone, we used air-dried clay. A Maori bone necklace is a necklace made of bone and has some sort of Maori design on it. They are also known as Manaia, Manaia was made of moa bones, but now they are made of cattle, oxen, deer, goats, and camels. Of course, because moas are extinct.

The first step was to research and sketch a few designs of something that can represent something about you. The second step was making it in play-doh so you now it is possible to make with air-dried clay. The third step was to sketch your final design and write about what is important in it.
The last step is by far the most fun bit was to make it with air dry clay.

He is an abode spark with the final design and some interesting facts.

Have you made a bone necklace before?

Cool castle work

Hey blogger,

For my literacy work today my teachers read the class a book called the three little pigs. If you are not familiar with this story please press on this link. For my task, I had to write something called a story mountain. A story mountain is a metaphoric term for a narrative story, which means that there is a setting, rising action, Climate, falling action, and the resolution. Here is a diagram

My task today was to create a castle on google draw and then pinpoint all the story mountain of the three little pigs.

What is your favourite ferry tale?

Cool Covid - 19 poster.

Hey bloggers,
For Inquiry, my class all made a COVID 19 poster, the best poster will be put up around our school. The poster had to include a title, body text, and small text. To make it better I spread out the writing and made sure I did not overcrowd my poster. I put the yellow lines to catch the eye of the reader and made it so it pushed your eyes towards the texts.
Have you used Canva before? Did you learn anything?

The man of war

Kia ora bloggers, This week for literacy we have been learning about inferencing and show not tell. When we read something, we automatically start making inferences, so it is important when we write that we give clues in our writing that allow people to make inferences. We want to show them - not tell them.
For example, Paul was frustrated when he got to the bus stop and realized he had just missed the bus. But instead, I could write “Running as fast as he could, Paul turned the corner only to see the back of the bus as it pulled away. Throwing his bag down on the ground and sighing out loud, Paul realized that he had no choice, but to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive - 20 minutes from now” You can infer from me saying ‘throwing his bag down and sighing out loud’ that he is frustrated.
Our task was to create a video that accompanied a piece of writing about an elderly man. We used Adobe Spark to do this.

Have a look at my video and see if you can make some inferences about what I have written. Do you think the elderly man is happy?

Fabulous Python!

Hey Bloggers
For math this week I am doing algebra. Today I am going to show you how to work out an algebra question.
How I did this was I opened a google sheet, then I put days, tom and tia all going below each other. Next, I put the days going horizontal above the days, from 0 to 7. Then I counted down from 20 in 2's
and counting up from 0 in 2.5's. Once I finished that I looked for the point were Tia had more money than Tom. To make this work for a question you times how much you are adding by the number of days.

What answer did you get?

The twits Chapter one Hairy Faces Inference!

Kia ora Bloggers,

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference. For example, when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair nets and this is required in all food factories. What’s going on in this picture? Look closely at the image above or view it in a <a href="https://static01.nyt.com/images/2020/04/17/learning/VTS04-20-20LN/VTS04-20-20LN-superJumbo.jpg">larger size</a>, then tell us what you see by posting a comment. On Thursday afternoon, we will reveal more about the image and its origins at the bottom of this post.
The text that we read a snippet out of ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Have you read The Twits before?  Do you agree with my inferences? What inferences would you make about the characters?

See you next time!

Last week ( week 5 )

Hey bloggers,

Things have been good because new Zealand getting out of lockdown on Monday. This means back to school and no more online learning. Although it has been kinder fun it will be good to be back at school. Today I am going to show you literacy, numeracy, and a Friday task.

literacy
for my favorite literacy task, I had to make a timeline about Roald dahl. This timeline had to include place and time of birth, schools, work, and death. I had to show this in a creative way so I choose a website called render forest. Here it is.

Math
For math this week I was learning how to add and subtract fractions. I also learned how to multiply and divided fractions. To go with this we also had to do an escape room which was really fun. Here is the escape room I had to do.

Friday task
For my Friday task, I had to go onto Google Maps and choose a country (not NZ), zoom in and have a look around the different city names and regions. Once I had chosen my country, I start doing some research about the cuisine in that country. What do they eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? What are some popular snacks? I write these down in a list, then compare them to what you to what I eat. Are there any differences?
What are you doing during the lockdown?

fabulous online learning ( week 4 )

Hey bloggers,
Welcome back to another week of online learning, this week was as fun as usual. School is on track to be back on the 18th of May. Really excited to get back. This week. I am going to show you my favorite activity from each of my subjects.
Literacy
For my favorite literacy task, I actually got to choose to do this.  It was an information report about black mambas. Although I have a fear of snakes know, It was fun learning about them. They are really interesting.
Math
For math this week, I was reviewing how to find an area or circumference. All my tasks this week were quite similar. But I choose the review on finding areas in circles because I find the most fun out of it.

Friday task
My task is to design a dream birthday cake - make it an original design!
Anything is possible and affordable - the budget is as much money as you need. Here it is.

What have you been doing during the lockdown?

Online Learning week 3! Wacky half week!

Hey bloggers,

Welcome back to another week, this week I am going to choose my favorite literacy task, numeracy task, technology, and Friday task. From now on I will be doing only one blog post a week and it will feature the activities I have just mentioned.

Literacy
For my favorite literacy task, I had to do an information report about giraffes. They had to include six things, an Introduction, a Giraffe description, habitat, diet, something interesting, and fun facts. An information report is something you do when someone wants information on an animal or subject.
Numeracy
My favorite numeracy task, I had to work on my coordinates work and learn what a cartesian plane is. A Cartesian plane is basically the thing you use to work on your coordinates, it is a plane that has many squares on it and has 2 rows of numbers in the middle. These numbers are on both sides of 0. I also had to play a few games and get used to working on a cartesian plane. I took screenshots of all the endings of the games that I had played.

Technology
For my technology task, I made a pizza and made a pizza box for my pizza. Then I had to get some taste feedback and see if I can improve my recipe.

Friday task
For my Friday task, I had a range of activities to choose from, I choose to design a food truck and design a menu to go with the truck. I choose a pizza truck because pizza is my favorite food. Here are the screenshots of my truck and menu. I found this task quite hard.

What have you been doing during the lockdown?

Online learning day 8

Hey bloggers,

For my work today, it was a bit more crafty. Today I made a giant poppy out of a long stick and a red shopping bag. How I did it was, I cut a big hole in one side of the shopping bag and then I cut a little hole on the other. Then I got a black plastic table cloth and cut a small hole in it. Then I got the two red bits and put the little red circle in the middle and then I folded it in half and then folded it into a quarter and I pinched the bottom corner. Pinching the bottom corner start to undo it a little, then twist. Now put a nail through the middle onto a long stick. This is the final product for me.
Have you made a poppy? Did it turn out good?

I also had to do a different task, for this task I had to put emojis in order to make a saying. For example 😒🧱
This would be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Do you know all of them?

Online learning day 7

Hey bloggers

For literacy today, my activity was to write a diary entry from the ANZAC soldier's point of view. I wrote mine about when the ANZAC soldiers first landed at Gallipoli. I had to write this from a 1 person view.

Hello Diary

Today is my first day at Gallipoli and my first sight was the worst thing I have ever seen: dead bodies lined up on the beach, the injured under cliffs the size of mountains, and blood was just everywhere. It is my first day of training in the trenches and I got to hold my rifle for the first time for real.

The trenchers are just terrible, they smell like rotten canned meat and blood, and when we were fighting my friends were dropping left right and center. Any sort of fun and adventure was wiped from our minds. The food is horrible here, canned meat and hard biscuits. The taste of my own sweet was as disgusting as salty seawater. Even though the food is horrible we eat all of it because we get so little.

The noise all around me is constantly ear piercing, the shouting, the guns, and the cries for help. The gun fires are as loud as a heavy hail banging on a tin roof, Rattata Rattata. Now I just wish I never joined the army.

Do you know anything about the Gallipoli war?

Online Learning day 6

Hey bloggers

Unfortunately, the lockdown has been extended so I will be doing this for at least 1 more week.

For literacy, my task was to watch some videos about the landing at the ANZAC war. Then see if I can write down similes our describing words for each sense.

For math today, I picked a and mark, then I got he dimension for that landmark in my case I choose MT Fuji. So I found the dimension for MT fuji, this is because I am going to apply a scaling factor to the dimensions so I can put it on a Tinkercad.
Do you know anything about ANZAC?

online learning day 4

Hey bloggers,

For literacy, we did a piece of descriptive writing about, The Man Who Walked Between The Two Towers. Most of us had no I dear who this was, but we could all kind of guess where it was. Where do you think it was? Well, it was the twin towers in New York. Here is a link to the story. We did four or five quality sentences, in a first-person view and of our character choice. Here is mine.

I only see the string thin tight rope and the miraculous sunrise across New york. The unfinished north tower was about a football field away. I was not nervous. I had to be calm, open and close I thought. I put my first foot onto the rope that felt like air, I've dreamed of this for many years.

For math today I made a house design, with all the measurements. My guidelines were there are two adults and 2 children in the house. So there had to be at least two bedrooms 1 bathroom one living room and one kitchen. I made this on Tinkercad.

Have you made a Tinkercad before? Had you heard of  The Man Who Walked Between The Two Towers?

Online Learning Day 3

Hey bloggers,
Its day 3 of online learning and here's what I had to do.
For numeracy, I had to pick out an object in my house and see if it could fit in your bubble which has a two-meter radius. Here's how I did it.

For literacy, I had to make a photo album of things I have been doing in my bubble. This can include watching TV, skipping, running anything really. What I did is on this slide show presentation.

Have you done a photo album before? What did you do it on? Have you done work on the two-meter bubble yet?

Day 2 Online Learning

Hey Bloggers

This is day 2 of online learning, what I had to do today for math was a scavenger hunt of measurement. I had to find things around my home things that were long, heavy and had a capacity. Then I had to put them with the appropriate measurement term.

Have you done a scavenger hunt before?

Welcome to term 2 2020!

Kia ora bloggers,
As a new term starts covid - 19 is still going around and New Zealand is in lockdown. That means we are not allowed to go to school, so the teachers have set up our classes online. How this work is we have a google meet in the morning at 9 am and a google meet at 2:30 pm. In the morning meeting, they tell us what we need to do and then in the afternoon meeting they see if we have done it. Today was the first day of this program.

For my literacy work, I had to make a timetable. This included when I'm going to do my literacy work and when I am going to do my numeracy work and my lunchtimes and morning tea times.

For my numeracy work, we are working on the properties of 3d shapes. What we had to do was collect some items from inside our house and then work out how many vertices, edges, and faces they had.

Have you done online schooling? What did you have to do?
